Job Description
The Site Reliability Engineer has strong knowledge of the CI/CD methodology and philosophies. Experienced with optimizing software build and deployment pipelines. Identify gaps and bottlenecks in pipelines, makes recommendations to resolve those gaps. Works cross departmentally with IT&S and Development to automate software delivery. Experience with Cloud architecture (AWS) and infrastructure as code
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Site Reliability Engineer is a member of engineering organization that works on the scalability, manageability, and reliability of our SLO driven SaaS platform.
- The SRE is part of a team that is responsible for all production escalated issues (SWARMs), alerting, visibility and transparency ensuring the platform is operating according to our predefined service level objectives.
- The SRE lives in the SLIs of the platform – seeing a problem before it’s a problem and remediating, understanding the indicators across the platform that dictate our service levels in order to appropriately report, alert, and trend them.
- The SRE works in a stream-aligned approach with each of our engineering teams to ensure they have what they need to provide fast and efficient delivery platform and understands our existing development and deployment pipelines in order to design and implement the next generation framework for software development, testing, documentation, and deployment. The role includes the maintenance of the internal infrastructure that supports the software development, test and documentation teams.
- This is a high visibility role that requires excellent communication and teamwork skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, engaging peers and other departments to accomplish assigned goals and effectively execute projects in a cross-functional environment.
- The SRE I works on improving existing and creating new processes and tools supporting agile application development teams leading to continuous integration, test, and deploy methods. The SRE I assists with application integration and troubleshooting in this complex application environment, including management of dependencies on services, platforms, and other applications.
- The role requires a well-organized, action-oriented team player with the ability to prioritize daily work, change directions quickly, and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- The SRE I will be working with a broad range of technologies, including, but not limited to: Terraform, Ansible, Azure and AWS (and various service offerings within – CDNs, Kubernetes (AKS/EKS)- too many to list, and it changes a lot!), spinnaker, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Python, .net, microservices, SQL. Understanding of or experience with event-driven architecture is a plus.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field involving coding (physics or mathematics) or equivalent practical experience.
- 1-2 years’ experience in operation of production systems including troubleshooting, testing, automation, and monitoring.
- Experience with Development Operations practices including infrastructure as code, CI/CD, pipelining, automated deployment and testing, and self-healing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with logging, monitoring, and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, etc.).
- Experience with network and application protocols (e.g., TCP, HTTP) and databases (RDS, SQL, Mongo, etc.).
- Experience supporting production systems in a cloud environment (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Experience leading design or modernization efforts for applications (e., g., using APIS, micro-services, etc.).
